Why can’t I fiddle my expenses when everyone else does?

I am a badly paid journalist and have just got in trouble over expenses. I took a friend out to lunch (the bill came to £34.80) and I put it on expenses, claiming to have met a contact. I was rumbled – and have been given an informal warning.

I pretended to be sorry but I’m not – I’m angry. I work far harder than my contract hours and see the occasional meal as a small payback. Almost everyone in my office pads expenses, but I’m the only one in the dock. What do I do? Accept the black mark or expose the whole system?
