This week I return, gratefully, to full-time writing after spending most of the past 10 years running Financial Times departments.
I thought that I knew about management when I started; I had been writing about it for years. But writing and doing are different, as I quickly discovered.
I hope I learnt from my mistakes. I made plenty of them. Each manager learns his or her own leadership lessons. Here are my top seven:
