We must do more to kill off meeting monsters

Work meetings have surged in the pandemic so it is time to do something about the people who make them unbearable

At the start of every working week, millions of people around the world get ready for something they do endlessly, joylessly and badly: a meeting.

It was awful before the pandemic, when research showed there were an estimated 55m meetings a day in the US alone.

An average manager there sat in 12 meetings a week, and even a non-manager racked up eight. It was not much better elsewhere.
