Off air TV presenter pulled after private Mao comments go viral

A top anchor on China’s state television network has been suspended after a video in which he insulted Mao Zedong went viral.

The episode, the latest to befall China Central Television, highlights how the former Communist party chairman divides China three decades after his death.

While many revere Mao as a demigod and the founder of modern China, others see him as a murderous villain, responsible for millions of deaths from the famine and persecution that accompanied his rule.
