China extends olive branch to US at summit with EU

China’s premier Li Keqiang has extended an olive branch to the US in the midst of Beijing’s efforts to rally international support against new trade tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

The conciliatory words followed an escalation in US rhetoric against its trading partners, including the EU and China, and came as US president Donald Trump prepared to meet Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.
