Chinese leader Xi Jinping is leaving his predecessor behind on the slow train by rebranding China’s sleek high-speed trains with his “national rejuvenation” slogan.
Launched in 2007 during the administration of Hu Jintao, China’s high-speed trains are a symbol of the country’s modernisation and desire to export high-tech infrastructure. They are all branded Hexiehao, which translates as “Harmony”.
However, the newest trains on the fastest routes are to be branded Fuxinghao, or “Rejuvenation”, to reflect Mr Xi’s programme for the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”, Chinese media reported on Monday. “Goodbye Harmony!” the Global Times, a nationalist tabloid, taunted in a social media posting.
