Business secretary Sajid Javid has moved to calm business fears over Brexit, saying Huawei, the Chinese telecoms equipment group, has confirmed it would be proceeding with a £1bn investment in the UK.
“My main aim [is] to reassure business but we have had plenty of reassurance from business,” he said at the end of a meeting at the Department for Business with trade association leaders, including the heads of the CBI, Institute of Directors and British Chambers of Commerce.
“There needs to be a really clear new framework for how business engages with government,” said Carolyn Fairbairn, director-general of the CBI, who attended the meeting. “We are a long way off having a plan and real leadership [and] this is what business needs.”
