Three New York residents were arrested on Wednesday on charges of conspiring to support Islamist militants, including two who were making plans to travel to Syria to fight with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
One man was arrested at New York’s John F Kennedy airport as he attempted to board a plane for Turkey while the others were arrested in Brooklyn and Florida. One of the men had discussed an assassination attempt on President Barack Obama, according to a criminal complaint unsealed on Wednesday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation complaint names the men as Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev and Abror Habibov, both citizens of Uzbekistan, and Akhror Saidakhmetov, a citizen of Kazakhstan who was arrested at the airport. All three lived in Brooklyn.
