Bolivia president offers asylum

Evo Morales, Bolivia’s president, said he would grant asylum to Edward Snowden if requested, write Andres Schipani in Bogotá and Geoff Dyer in Washington.

The offer on Saturday from Mr Morales came a day after Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s president, and Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, said they were willing to grant Mr Snowden asylum, boosting his prospects of evading arrest by the US.

Mr Morales said: “I want to say to the Europeans and Americans: we are going to give asylum if that American [Snowden] who is hunted by his countrymen asks us for it. We have no fear.”
