The head of one of the US's biggest industrial groups has attacked the Obama administration's initiative to double exports within five years, saying it does not reflect how manufacturing works in the global economy.
President Barack Obama outlined his National Export Initiative in March with the aim of creating 2m jobs – about the same number that the US manufacturing sector shed during the downturn.
His administration said earlier this month that exports had increased by 17 per cent in the first four months of 2010 and that the US was on track to hit the export target.
