North Korea has fired two projectiles into the Sea of Japan and rejected calls for dialogue with Seoul, in a blow for South Korean president Moon Jae-in’s efforts to resume talks.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Friday morning that it was monitoring the situation after “two unidentified projectiles” were fired from North Korea’s eastern Kangwon Province. The flight range and altitude of the projectiles were not immediately reported.
The launch on Friday appears to be the latest in a series of weapons tests carried out in recent weeks by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Experts say the return to military provocations could complicate efforts by US president Donald Trump to resume negotiations with North Korea over ending its nuclear weapons programme.
