Japanese exports tumbled further than expected last month in the latest sign that economies across Asia are being hit by China’s slowdown and the US-China trade war.
Japanese exports fell 8.4 per cent year on year in January, according to a provisional official reading form the finance ministry, the steepest decline since October 2016 and below forecasts of a 5.5 per cent fall from economists polled by Reuters.
Exports to China plunged 17.4 per cent but the blow was softened by a 6.8 per cent increase in shipments to the US.
