As the escalating global trade war clouds the outlook for Japan’s car industry, Toyota is preparing for its biggest push into China.
To strengthen its presence in the world’s largest automotive market, Japan’s top carmaker is considering sharing its technology and knowhow in building hybrid vehicles with Chinese companies in response to a request from Beijing, according to two people close to Toyota.
The company and most other big Japanese carmakers are planning to boost production and sales in China as they wrestle with the slowing US market, which was a key driver of growth over the past decade.
