China’s manufacturing sector continued to show signs of recovery as it grew more than expected in December, according to a closely-watched survey.
The Caixin-Markit manufacturing PMI rose to 51.9 in the final month of 2016 from 50.9 in November and expectations it would remain steady at that level.
This keeps the index above the threshold of 50 that separates expansion from contraction and means China’s manufacturing sector has expanded for six months in a row. The sector was in contractionary territory from March 2015 to June last year.
