When legal firms Dentons and China’s Dacheng agreed to merge this year, it was billed as “the world’s first truly global law firm” — and the biggest, with 6,600 lawyers operating in 125 offices in more than 50 countries.
The east-west legal merger symbolised the growing business ties between China and the rest of the world. It is a relationship promising the west the growth it seeks, but one fraught with challenges, from IT security through to culture clashes.
Six months after revealing the merger, Dentons and Dacheng have yet to set a date to put it fully into operation, roll out their joint name or launch a combined website.
