China is by far the Asian fund industry’s biggest buzzword. Foreign asset managers are busy developing strategies regarding access to China or re-evaluating their mainland businesses, prompted by a host of regulatory changes.
The sheer size of the Chinese market means it requires far more resources than many of its regional peers.
Managers without an existing presence in China would be better off starting with the institutional market but the fly-in/fly-out model is unlikely to be sustainable in the long run.
