Schlumberger admits breaking US sanctions

Schlumberger, the world’s largest oil services group, has agreed to plead guilty and pay a $233m penalty for violating US sanctions by facilitating trade with Iran and Sudan, the justice department said on Wednesday.

Schlumberger Oilfield Holdings, the subsidiary that committed the violations, will also be on corporate probation for three years while its parent company has to hire an independent consultant to review its sanctions policies and compliance procedures.

Schlumberger said it had co-operated with the investigation, and was “satisfied that this matter is finally resolved”.
