Chinese tycoon eyes opportunities in Greece

Yan Jiehe, the Chinese construction magnate chasing indebted local authorities for Rmb50bn ($8bn) in unpaid infrastructure bills, is turning his gaze to another risky market, saying that he is on the hunt for investment deals in Greece.

Last week Mr Yan, founder of China’s largest private sector company by revenues, launched the first ever lawsuits against six municipal and county governments for unpaid bills.

In an interview with the Financial Times, he said he was “testing the waters” with the lawsuits, which are also intended as a warning to other debtors of his China Pacific Construction Group.
