S&P warns on China's love of GDP targets

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Many economists and investors fret about the Chinese economic slowdown but analysts at Standard & Poor's warn that the country's emphasis on growth targets was itself contributing to discomfort.

They write:“China's rigid use of GDP growth targets coupled with incentives that encourage over-performance have led to a potentially dangerous weakening of financial stability.”
