China's exports fail to accelerate much

Exports from the world's workshop were up 7.2 per cent from a year ago, missing forecasts for a double-digit gain but slightly ahead of the 7 per cent figure in May.

This marks the third month of export growth, but data from the first four months of the year was largely ignored due to distortions owed to over-invoicing in early 2013, which made year-to-year changes difficult to judge.

Imports rebounded, rising 5.5 per cent in June after a 1.6 per cent year-over-year fall in May.
