Chinese airlines rise on government aid

In Hong Kong, China Eastern jumped 41.3 per cent to HK1.06, its highest since October 22, and 9.9 per cent to Rmb4.32 in Shanghai. China Southern gained 43 per cent to HK$1.33 and 9.9 per cent to Rmb3.66.

Both carriers said they would issue shares to their parents in exchange for the Rmb3bn cash injections from the government.

However, the gains in Shanghai were not enough to buoy the wider Shanghai Composite index.
