World leaders stunned by attempted assassination of Shinzo Abe

Former Australian prime minister warns of ‘attack on supporters of democracy everywhere’

The attempted assassination of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has drawn a wave of concern among political leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region and sparked warnings over the fragility of the world’s democracies.

Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador in Tokyo, said the US was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting.
