President Donald Trump won the crucial battleground states of Florida and Ohio and saw off Joe Biden’s challenge in Texas, increasing the likelihood of a drawn out finish to the US presidential election.
Mr Biden was leading in the key swing state of Arizona — which Mr Trump won in 2016 — and expressed hopes that he was heading to victory once postal ballots had been counted in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
“We feel good about where we are. I am here to tell you tonight that we believe we are on track to win,” he told supporters in Wilmington, Delaware. “We knew because of the mail-in voting and early voting that it would take a while . . . It ain’t over until every vote, every ballot, is counted.”
