Cathay Pacific to cut 8,500 jobs, shut regional airline

Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific said it will slash 8,500 jobs and cut its regional Cathay Dragon brand as part of a restructuring plan to weather the pandemic.

The job cuts account for around 24 per cent of the company’s headcount, the airline said in a statement, with the bulk of job losses to affect Hong Kong-based staff.

It said 2,600 of the jobs are now vacant as a result of recent cost savings.
