Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic nomination for vice-president on the third night of the party’s convention during a personal speech that pointed to the historic nature of her candidacy while also attacking Donald Trump.
Ms Harris became the first woman of colour to join a major party’s presidential ticket when Joe Biden picked her as his running mate, and her live video address from Delaware fleshed out a vision of an America “where all are welcome, no matter what we look like”.
“[I am] committed to the values [my mother] taught me, to the word that teaches me to walk by faith, and not by sight, and to a vision passed on through generations of Americans — one that Joe Biden shares,” Ms Harris said in Delaware on Wednesday night.
