Democrat Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate, making the senator from California the first African-American woman on a main US party’s presidential ticket.
Ms Harris was one of the most experienced candidates on Mr Biden’s short list and the Democratic presidential candidate, who served four decades in the Senate before becoming Barack Obama’s vice-presidential choice in 2008, cited her record in his announcement on Tuesday.
“I have the great honour to announce that I’ve picked Kamala Harris — a fearless fighter for the little guy and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” he wrote on Twitter.
