Foreign governments were making urgent plans on Monday to evacuate their nationals from the Chinese city at the heart of the spread of a deadly coronavirus.
Beijing has said it is willing to offer them “necessary assistance” on evacuations from the eastern commercial centre of Wuhan, which remains in lockdown, in response to a health crisis that state media say has already killed 81 and infected thousands.
Wuhan accounted for about 80 per cent of the 19,000 long-term foreign residents living in Hubei province in 2018, according to a Chinese government website.
