Donald Trump, US president, on Monday called for election authorities in Florida to halt automatic recounts in the Senate and governor races, as he claimed, without providing evidence, that the contests were tainted by voter fraud.
In the Senate race, Rick Scott, the Republican governor of Florida, leads Bill Nelson, the incumbent Democrat, by just over 12,000 votes.
Meanwhile, in the battle to replace Mr Scott as the state's governor, Republican Ron DeSantis leads Andrew Gillum by just under 34,000 votes. The margins in both races were narrow enough to trigger automatic recounts.
