Apple’s Chinese future challenged by lurking threats

For the first time in seven years, Apple is not among the world’s top two smartphone makers. For the first time ever, a Chinese company is. 

Analysts at several research groups, including IDC, Canalys and Counterpoint, all agree that China’s Huawei overtook Apple to take second place behind Samsung in the global smartphone market in the latest quarter, as measured by unit volumes. 

The news took the shine off what was otherwise a positive day for the iPhone maker, as Apple reported  better than expected quarterly revenues.
