Audi chief arrested over emissions scandal

The chief executive of carmaker Audi was arrested by German authorities yesterday for his alleged involvement in the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal, leaving his job in doubt.

The board of Audi, VW’s luxury arm, was set to vote last night on whether to force Rupert Stadler to stand down, according to two people familiar with the situation.

Abraham Schot, Audi sales chief, was lined up to be interim chief executive, the people said. Mr Schot, who joined the VW Group from Mercedes-Benz in 2011, was appointed an Audi board member last September.
