Japan’s defence minister has said North Korea‘s nuclear and missile programmes pose an “imminent” danger, as US allies step up their warnings about the rogue state’s rapidly increasing military capacity.
“[The] threat posed by North Korea has grown to the unprecedented, critical and imminent level,” said Itsunori Onodera, in remarks that highlighted the escalating concern Pyongyang has triggered in the region and beyond.
“We have to take calibrated and different responses to meet with that level of threat,” he added ahead of a meeting with Jim Mattis and Song Young-moo, his US and South Korean counterparts, in the Philippines.
