Donald Trump has warned Republicans to pass a new healthcare bill on Friday or risk being stuck with Obamacare as the febrile US capital heads into the most consequential day of his presidency so far.
The president’s ultimatum to Congress sets the stage for a showdown with his own party, with Republican leaders insisting they will push ahead with the vote to scrap Obamacare on Friday having pulled it the previous day.
Replacing Obamacare was a core theme of Mr Trump’s campaign but the outcome of the vote is on a knife-edge having fractured his party and turned into a test of his ability to deliver on the rest of his agenda.
