Viacom has named Philippe Dauman, its chief executive, to replace Sumner Redstone as executive chairman, over the objections of Mr Redstone’s daughter and amid a brewing battle over the billionaire’s media empire.
Mr Redstone, 92, controls Viacom, owner of cable networks including MTV and Nickelodeon, the Paramount film studio and broadcaster CBS through his National Amusements holding group.
But his health has been in decline and, on Wednesday, he stepped down as CBS chairman, replaced by the company’s chief executive Les Moonves.
