WHO declares Zika virus a global health emergency

Zika has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organisation as the number of suspected birth defects linked to the mosquito-borne virus continues to rise.

“A co-ordinated international response is needed to reduce the risk of further international spread,” she added.
