The plan to link the British and Chinese stock markets, announced by George Osborne on a trip to China, faces several hurdles, according to asset managers and infrastructure providers.
A feasibility study to “formally connect” the London and Shanghai stock exchanges was announced yesterday, but although discussions have taken place in recent weeks, few details have been confirmed, the London Stock Exchange said.
Capital Economics, a consultancy, said the venture was “more hype than substance”, adding it would be a long time before it got off the ground.
