Peter Humphrey, the investigator jailed in connection with the GlaxoSmithKline Chinese corruption scandal, has been released after serving about two years, sources close to the Briton said.
Mr Humphrey was apparently freed on health grounds and is in a Shanghai hospital having tests relating to cancer.
A court reduced his sentence by seven months and he will be deported on his discharge from hospital, according to one source.
