Saudi Arabia and its Gulf Arab allies have launched a military operation involving air strikes in Yemen against Houthi fighters tightening their grip on Aden, where the country’s president had taken refuge, the Saudi envoy to Washington said on Wednesday.
On Thursday Iran condemned the Saudi-led aerial bombing campaign against Sana’a as a “dangerous step” which could “further complicate” the crisis in Yemen and called for an immediate halt in strikes.
Marzieh Afkham, Iran’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, said the bombardment against the Iranian-backed Houthis was “against international responsibility to respect other countries’ sovereignty” and could have no result but the killing of civilians and expansion of radicalism in the region.
