China is to limit the number of foreign television shows broadcast on local websites to 30 per cent of total content, in a move that will favour local entertainment producers and curb overseas cultural influences.
The rules, which have not yet been made public by the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television, were confirmed by two internet industry figures who said they would be implemented within days.
The move follows the banning of four US TV shows from websites in April, including The Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife, NCIS and The Practice.
