Russia on Sunday accused the Ukrainian government of failing to implement last week’s Geneva accord, saying there had been an attack on “innocent, peaceful civilians” in eastern Ukraine by nationalist fighters.
The claim brought an immediate denial and a volley of counteraccusations from Kiev.
Ukraine’s government roundly rejected Moscow’s accusations, describing Russia’s assertion that nationalist fighters were behind a fatal overnight clash in eastern Ukraine as propaganda and a provocation and blaming pro-Russian militants for the attack.
