Dumex, the baby food brand owned by France’s Danone, said yesterday that it was investigating allegations on Chinese state television that the company bribed doctors and nurses to recommend its infant formula to new parents.
The report makes Danone the latest foreign company to be targeted in Beijing’s anti-bribery probes, which have focused on pharmaceutical companies.
Danone was also one of six mostly foreign infant-formula manufacturers that faced Rmb669m ($109m) in fines from the Chinese government in August for allegedly anti-competitive pricing practices.
