WPP expands into China with Filmworks takeover

WPP, the global marketing services group, has expanded in China with the acquisition of Filmworks China, whose clients include Electronic Arts and DreamWorks.

The move is part of a strategy by the advertising giant, run by chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell, to expand its reach into faster growing emerging markets.

In October, the company announced it had agreed to buy a majority stake in ArtM Communications, a Chinese agency employing about 180 people. China is the third-largest market for WPP with revenues of $1.3bn and 14,500 staff.
