Management consultants were hit hard during the downturn but are now bouncing back, as nearly all the big strategy and advisory firms are recruiting again, with stiff competition to hire the best graduates.
Ernst & Young is taking on 400 consultants in the UK this year; KPMG is adding 200 in the year to October, for example.
It is not all plain sailing, however. Scott Parker, head of performance and technology at KPMG, says the market has been a rollercoaster, with some sectors of the economy hiring management consultants, as others continue to axe them.
