Protests continued to roil Yemen on Thursday as the nation awaited President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s response to an initiative that could see him lose power by the end of the year.
A government official has indicated that the proposal – negotiated on Wednesday by opposition parties, tribal sheikhs and religious scholars – has been positively received. But doubts remain.
“The devil is in the details,” said Saqr al-Luji, an independent MP. “If there has been no response on the issue of the peaceful transfer of the president’s power, then no agreement can go forward.”
