Gao Xiqing, president of China Investment Corporation, has launched a rousing defence of the sovereign wealth fund’s way of doing business, attacking the conservatism of “quite a few” developed countries for not welcoming Chinese investment.
Mr Gao, seen in China as something of a maverick due to his outspoken views, said: “I keep telling governments we should be the most welcome investor. [But they say]: ‘We want the money but we don’t want the people.’”
He talked about “the fear” of Chinese investment across developed countries, adding “we don’t really see that” in developing countries.
