Scion of Lee clan steps into Samsung limelight

Lee Jae-yong, the son of Samsung Group's disgraced former chairman and long seen as his heir apparent, emerged from the shadows yesterday to take a heavyweight job at the second-biggest technology company by sales.

In a shake-up, Mr Lee, 41, becomes chief operating officer at Samsung Electronics.

Choi Gee-sung, who previously headed the telecommunications and digital media businesses, becomes chief executive. Mr Choi is viewed as a likely mentor for Mr Lee until the official succession.
