CHINA ATTACKS SINGH'S VISIT TO DISPUTED STATE

China has strongly criticised the visit last week by India's prime minister Manmohan Singh to the north-east state of Arunachal Pradesh, the latest sharp exchange between the two powers about the border area, which is also claimed by Beijing.

Ma Zhaoxu, of the Chinese foreign ministry, said yesterday that Beijing was “seriously dissatisfied” by the visit.

Mr Singh travelled to the state on October 3 to campaign on behalf of his ruling Congress party, which appears to have retained control of the state in local legislative assembly elections held yesterday.
