Wall Street showed signs of fatigue yesterday after its recent exertions although European and Asian stocks managed to maintain their earnings-driven upward momentum.
The FTSE Eurofirst 300 index of leading European equities rose 0.3 per cent to its highest close for more than eight months, while the FTSE 100 in London rose for an 11th successive session – equalling its best-ever winning run.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 Average saw its ninth daily rise – its best run for more than two decades – and the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong closed above 20,000 for the first time since the collapse of Lehman Brothers last September.
