BLEAK DAY FOR WORLD MARKETS

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell below 7,000 for the first time in 12 years.

A sell-off in London pushed the FTSE 100 to a six-year low – and to its lowest in 14 years in dollar terms. The falls followed dramatic overnight falls in Asia.

“It's another bloodbath with equity markets in a state of panic,” said Jimmy Yates, head of equities at brokerage CMC Markets.
