Last year investment banks doled out big bonuses and other perks to stave off burnout among their ranks and keep the grunt work behind a record dealmaking boom moving.

Bankers’ pay soared in 2021, rekindling faint memories of the industry’s pre-crisis glory days as depicted in this video, which you probably tried to erase from your memory.

But the sums generated by private equity workers — who many bankers effectively service by raising debt and equity for their deals — were far greater.
