Temu struggles to rebuild in face of Amazon’s US pricing power

Chinese online platform’s hopes of undercutting ecommerce giant rebuffed by American suppliers

Temu’s efforts to find US suppliers to rebuild its online retail business following Donald Trump’s clampdown on Chinese imports have been hamstrung by Amazon’s dominance of the ecommerce market.

The ecommerce platform owned by China’s PDD Holdings has been told by US companies and sellers that it cannot provide cheaper prices on branded products than those offered on Amazon, according to two people familiar with recent meetings.

“We’ve told them they can’t undercut Amazon with the same stuff, it’s going to have to be materially different [products],” said one executive at a major third party seller.
